Winter Knockout Competition 2008 - FINAL. David v Goliath, Phil Mottram v Denis Dove, all eyes were on Denis to overhaul tournament favourite, Phil who had an advantage with his high handicap. The match was scheduled to take place at Municipal Golf Course, but was cancelled due to it being waterlogged. However, both players agreed to play at Norton. The game started with a minor hiccup, Denis forgetting his glasses and his driver before he was able to tee off on the 2nd! Denis was hitting the fairways, however, his putting was letting him down (perhaps wearing the wrong spec's!). Phil was playing a safe game throughout to maintain a steady nett score. The contest of the game became tight as each hole was played, with the back 9 becoming all square, Denis was two strokes behind on the 18th, needing a mistake from Phil to overtake by stroke points, after missing a sitter the game remained in Phil's hands, who putted the winning hole by 1 stroke! Denis Dove 97/69 v Phil Mottram 120/68. Congratulations are in order to Phil, a deserving winner on overcoming some difficult hurdles on his way to the final, and not to mention a consolated well done to Denis for maintaining his form throughout the tournament.
